The Evo X can be a surprisingly reliable performance car if you keep an eye on these critical Evo X problems, you'll be well on your way to enjoying your Evo X for many years to come.
Check Evo X fluids
When you're looking to buy an Evo X, the first thing you should check is the fluids. A quick check of the brake fluid, engine oil, and coolant can tell you how the vehicle was treated and maintained. If they look clean and are at the proper levels, it's a good sign that the Evo X is in good health. However, if they look dirty or low, it could indicate that the previous owner didn't take good care of the car. So, be sure to check the fluids before making a decision on an Evo X, and if you already own an Evo X, be sure to keep it in check by adding all the right fluids.

What is the best EVO X exhaust?
The OEM Evo X cast manifold unfortunately cracks often. With the heat cycles in performance driving, it ends up taking a lot of abuse alongside poor heat management from the factory. You might notice some hairline cracks develop on the turbo. You can replace it with an MAPerformance Investment manifold as a solid option, or if you're looking to make some more power and you want a nice piece of artwork under your engine bay, our MAPerformance tubular manifold is another great choice. Our MAPerformance Evo X tubular manifold offers great airflow and gives your engine a unique look.
These manifolds were made with installation in mind. You won't need any special tools or any special knowledge to get them installed. They all have increased flow rates over stock and overall look great and perform well.

Keep your CV axle boots cleaned
The Evo X is an all-wheel drive, so it has double the number of CV shafts that a typical RWD or FWD car would have. That means you have to make sure that there are no leaks in twice as many boots, and that they're all well-greased and free of dirt. It's essential to keep your axles in good condition because if you don't, your suspension could fail and leave you stranded. Make sure to check your Evo X's suspension regularly to avoid any surprises.

Evo X AYC pump replacement
The AYC pump is a common failure point in the Evo X. It is located in the rear of the car and is susceptible to road grime, salt, water, and all sorts of contaminants that can get inside and corrode the electronics. The pump also has seals that can wear out over time. When the pump fails, it can cause the all-wheel-drive to fail as well. This can be a major problem, especially in winter weather conditions. The best way to avoid this problem is to replace the AYC pump before it fails. MAPerformance offers an OEM Evo X AYC pump replacement that will last longer and perform better than the stock pump. We also have a number of Evo X AYC pump relocation kit products that will move that AYC pump to a better location within the vehicle so you're not throwing more stuff at it. The Evo X is a great car, but with an AYC pump replacement, it can be even better.
Evo X fuel pump upgrade
Evo X fuel pumps have been known to have a lot of issues. In fact, Mitsubishi has come out with an upgraded part to try and fix the problem. Some common symptoms of a failing fuel pump are: your car idles funny, has long cranks, is hard to start in the cold, or sometimes it just won't start at all. If you think you might be having issues with your Evo X fuel pump, you can easily check to see if you have the updated part. If you do have the updated part, MAPerformance is a great place to buy it from–they're popular and hard to keep on the shelves, but we do have them. Plus, they are cheap and easy on the wallet.
