MAPerformance Civic Si Build Series - Dialing It Up

Welcome back to our build series on the eleventh generation Honda Civic Si! Last time we talked, we took you through some of the mechanical stuff we used to upgrade our car when we got it, including the new wheels, tires, and coilovers from our favorite brands on the market. Today, now that the chassis is taken care of, we're moving on to the bread and butter of any good performance car - the airflow-focused accessories.

We've been working hard to get top-tier exhaust kits, cold air intakes, and engine tuners installed on our Civic Si, so we invite you to take a peek at each part with us below. Everything you see today is in stock in our store, so if you're inspired to grab anything for your own build, you know what to do. Let's jump into the second part of our build sheet below!

Exhaust Kit Used In Our Civic Si Build - MAPerformance Cat Back Exhaust

We'll start first with the exhaust kit we added to our Civic Si. Generally, exhausts are some of the first parts we like to swap out on any performance car, because let's face it - off the lot, most cars just don't have them optimized for maximum airflow and performance.

Exhausts don't just help your car sound good, although that's certainly an appealing part of the deal. A good (emphasis on good) exhaust kit will usually be wider, stronger, and more durable than stock options, which allows more air to pass from your engine through the manifold quickly, more efficiently, and with better filtering. That means that you can get new air circulated faster, and harmful pollutants will be expelled at a much faster rate.

Knowing all this, each factor above went into the construction of our branded MAPerformance Cat Back Exhaust, built exclusively for use on current-gen Civic Si models - it's linked above if you missed it. This kit offers dual 3.5-inch tips, high-grade stainless steel in its construction, and polished mufflers for top tier airflow and sound design. We've built this exhaust kit to sound mean and perform even better, and it checks every box.

Intake Used In Our Civic Si Build - MAPerformance Air Intake Kit

Moving on to the engine now, we also built our own in-house air intake kit for use on the Civic Si. It also is made using 304 stainless steel with mandrel bent tubing, and features a proprietary air filter and dyno-tested 6-inch velocity stack - each of these features are meant to maximize airflow throughout your engine, a crucial component to any intake kit.

Cold air intakes work by basically moving the air filter from the hot part of your engine to a cooler part, which means that it will have denser air to work with. Dense air has more oxygen in it, which means more airflow potential, which leads to a stronger and more capable engine. In fact, under ideal conditions you can expect a horsepower gain of anywhere from 10-15 horsepower on your car just by using a well-built, properly-installed air intake.

Tuner Used In Our Civic Si Build - KTuner V2.0

As we know, a car can be perfectly set up mechanically, but you'll still be leaving some performance on the table if it's not electronically optimized as well. For this, you'll need a good engine tuner, which can hook up to the internal settings of your car and help optimize gear ratios, power output, and others, all the while giving you all the information you need on an easy-to-read screen for maximum control over your driving experience.

All of these factors led us to go with Ktuner's V2.0 engine tuner for our Civic Si build - it offers features to help with throttle response, reduce turbo lag, improve low-end and mid-range torque, and give the Civic Si a more nimble and athletic feel on the track. Purpose-built specifically for current-gen Civics, Ktuner knows what it's doing on the V2 - plus, the community and software support it provides are top notch, as is the on-board interface you'll get with this kit. We love what it can do.
