A must have part In combination with the shifter bushing. I have a STI SS in my 22 WRX and added the Cobb shifter plate and Cobb shifter bushing which you should 100% do since you will be removing the bushing off the plate when installing anyway. I have mine set to the shortest setting on the plate and I absolutely love the combo. Pair it all with a weighted knob of your choice and it’s a completely different shifting experience from stock.
It’s a subtle change from the stock plate. the shifting feels more notchy but as far as the travel it’s not a huge difference.
Install was straight forward. Hardest part to me was getting the roll pin back in since the plate would shift on me. I set it on the 35% reduction and love how it made the shifter feel. If your thinking about doing this mod I highly recommend it. And while your add it replace the rubber bushing with an upgraded one. Your there already.
I had the shift stop installed prior to this and it just wasn't a very good shifting experience. It makes a huge difference and makes the car a much better driving experience. I set it the 35% setting and every gear is short and crisp. A couple of install notes: The Cobb instructions have you remove a clip to disconnect the cable, don't do this it's a pain to undo. There are two easy to get to 12mm bolts holding the whole thing on, easy peasy.. Yes the top bolt on the heat shield is a pain to break loose, no room for a socket. I have a ratcheting set of wrenches I highly recommend you have them when doing this or you'll be fighting that one bolt for awhile. I didn't drop any of the cross members and was able to do in about 90 minutes from start to finish.
Paired this with sts short throw. Put it on shortest throw setting. My throws now are about 2 inches I love it.
