BRZ / FRS Performance Modifications

We have been receiving more and more phone calls from Subaru BRZ / Scion FRS owners asking what other enthusiasts are doing to their cars. Since the BRZ/FRS has quickly developed a serious following and many owners who call do not seem to ask the right questions I threw this small list together to help these new performance enthusiasts out.

1.) DO SOME RESEARCH - Yes, if you call us (1888MAPerformance) we will guide you in the right direction at the absolute best pricing, but before we can do that we will ask you some questions. No, you do not need in depth knowledge of your car, however, the more you know going into this decision making process the more prepared you'll be to describe your driving style and performance goals. Be weary of shop who suggest upgrades with out getting a full understanding of what you'll be doing with the car and how you're planning to drive/race it. Performance modifications upgrade paths are drastically different for a BRZ or FRS that will be used for Auto-x vs one that will be used for 1/4 drag racing. Drive / race your car to get a good feel for it and then begin your research. One of the most overlooked aspects of performance in my opinion is the "driver mod" - we highly suggest checking out the BIR Performance Driving School.

2.) PLEASE DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY FOLLOW THE CROWD - MAPerformance supports diversity, someone may want 1000hp while someone else may prefer to stance his BRZ/FR-S. But just because other BRZ & Scion FRS owners are buying certain parts doesn't mean these are the best modifications for you and your  car. We mainly focus on Subaru BR-Z & FR-S high performance parts. The parts our team here at MAPerformance will sell you not only help your car perform better on and off the track by adding power or reducing weight but they also look good doing it. Instead of asking what other BRZ owners have done ask us what performance modifications will best suit your driving style and your current setup / future goals!

3.) SET A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT - So you recently purchased a new 2013 Subaru BRZ or Scion FRS and would like to squeeze out more power. In theory this is a great idea but I can not tell you how many enthusiasts call us and say "how much is it to turbo my _____" (you can fill in the blank with everything from ford ranchero to geo metro). PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Take a step back and determine what you can afford to spend on your car. In most cases owners will be very happy with small horsepower increases and simple suspensions mods that can help them better hone in their driving skills. Creating a detailed outline of your upgrade path is the smartest way to get the gains and performance you're after with out driving your parts store, mechanic, and tuner insane. To create your own "mod path" simply speak with one of our knowledgeable Subaru BRZ/FRS parts & performance sales consultants to iron out small groups of performance upgrades to be installed and tuned together.

This will help cut down the amount you spend on professional installation of your aftermarket parts and as well as your dyno / tuning time getting the car dialed in. I see many customers buying one part and then getting tuned. They come back a month later for another upgrade, and again another tune.  This can get very, very expensive and I highly suggest avoiding this common mistake. I hope some of you Subaru BR-Z & Scion FR-S owners have learned that each enthusiast is different and that not every situation can be answered with the same parts. Although we do not "hate" on any sort of car or owner in particular we simply want all car enthusiasts to be aware that finding their own style will be the best way to ensure happiness with your new BRZ or FRS or any project really.
