Saenz Performance
Which part of your engine works hardest? We’d argue connecting rods are a good candidate. They endure huge compressive loads and are subject to immense stress. When you’re building or rebuilding an engine and you want it to last, take a close look at the rods you’re using. If they’re the OE items it’s probably worth upgrading, and we’d suggest a look at those from Saenz Performance.
Saenz products are an Argentine company who specialize in making con rods for performance applications. They know all about engineering-in strength while taking out weight, as evidenced by their many motorsport successes. They use high quality materials – 4340 grade steel and aerospace grade 300M – and are obsessive about testing. That way, when you buy Saenz rods from MAPerformance you can be confident they’ll do the job you ask.
Saenz rods are produced in two grades. They call these the S-Series and the Performance Series. S-Series rods are made from 4340 and feature an ‘H’ section design. Both ship with high-quality ARP bolts. The higher-grade Performance rods are produced from 300M steel, reducing weight around 10% compared with straight 4340, and use a more conventional ‘I’ section design. Performance rods do cost more but the weight reduction improves response in high-revving engines. In supercharged applications strength is more important, and again, 300M has the advantage.
One other point to note: Saenz Performance produces both short and long versions of their rods. That gives you some flexibility over choice of crank and the type of response you’ll get from the assembled motor.
